Cyprian Consort: 16th and 17th century music for lute consort and voices.
Our first concert of the season focuses on memorial songs from the time of Shakespeare. The centerpiece of the program is Coprario's "Funeral Teares," a ravishing, warm recollection of a beloved lost early. Other pieces include motets by Lassus, and the songs and laments of Thomas Campion, John Danyel and John Dowland. Memorial songs from this period are some of the most sublime, profound and moving expressions of grief from this rich period in the history of music.
This concert is dedicated to the memory of John Grimes and Rick Menaul.

For our second and larger scale performance, "For the Love of Purcell," Cyprian Consort will be joined by some of Boston's finest instrumentalists and singers- including soprano Margot Rood, tenor Charley Blandey, countertenor Reggie Mobley, and baritone James Dargan. Joining the consort are Emily Dahl and Asako Takeuchi on violins, N'ama Lion and Sonja Lindblad on recorders.
With excerpts from "Timon of Athens," "Welcome to all the Pleasures," and "Ode to Cecilia" as well as airs, duets and ensembles from Purcell's secular works, this program features an extravaganza of Purcell's works for voices and lute consort with violins and recorders.
